Board of Directors

 

The American Canyon Fire Protection District Board of Directors consists of five members responsible for establishing policies and programs that guide the District’s mission and operations. The Fire Chief, as the District’s executive leader, is entrusted with implementing these policies and managing daily operations.

Board Meetings

The Board meets monthly on the fourth Tuesday at 6:30 PM in the City of American Canyon Council Chambers, located at 4381 Broadway, 2nd Floor, American Canyon, CA. Meeting agendas are available a minimum of 72 hours prior to the scheduled meeting time. These meetings are broadcast live on public access cable Channel 28 and are also accessible live via streaming video.

Clerk of the Board

The Clerk of the Board is dedicated to providing efficient, transparent, and professional support to the Board of Directors and the community. Our office ensures the integrity and accessibility of the District’s legislative process and records. Key responsibilities include: 

  • Prepare and maintain Board of Directors and Sub-Committee meeting agendas, minutes, and related documents. 
  • Ensure transparency and compliance with legislative processes and public records laws. 
  • Manage all District contracts and agreements. 
  • Process and coordinate public records requests, including fire incident and investigation reports, pre-hospital patient care reports, property inspection reports and violation notices.
  • Accept and manage subpoenas.
  • Provide administrative and technical support to the Board as needed.
  • Oversee the Records Retention and Destruction process.

District Legal Counsel

The American Canyon Fire Protection District contracts with the Law Offices of William D. Ross (Palo Alto, CA) to provide legal counsel to the District. 

The District’s Legal Counsel serves as the primary legal advisor to the Board of Directors and District staff, offering guidance on a wide range of legal matters, including public safety, land use, code enforcement, public records, ethics, and compliance with the Brown Act. 

Legal Counsel provides the following services: 

  • Attends Board of Directors meetings and advises on the legality of matters under consideration. 
  • Prepares and/or reviews all ordinances, resolutions, agreements, contracts, leases, and other legal instruments used in the conduct of District business. 
  • Approves the form and content of all contracts, agreements, and bonds involving the District. 
  • Works to minimize the District’s exposure to litigation and associated legal costs. 
  • Represents the District in legal matters, including initiating or defending against lawsuits when necessary. 
  • Performs any other legal duties as directed by the Board of Directors or required to support the District’s operations.
